About Dr. Akshat Mehta

Currently working as Associate Professor & Dean in the School of Internal Security and Police Administration (SISPA). He is a double M.A. (in Police Administration and Public Administration); Ph.D. in Public Administration; and UGC NET & JRF in Public Administration. He has around Twelve Years of PG Teaching experience.

The M.A. in Police Administration Programme was introduced at Panjab University, Chandigarh in the academic session 2007-08 and he was the first Lecturer appointed for the said Programme. He continued as Assistant Professor, Police Administration at Panjab University till 28th December 2016 and since then he has joined Raksha Shakti University (India’s First Internal Security & Police University), Gandhinagar, Gujarat as its first Associate Professor in Police Administration.

He has to his credit several publications and has delivered lectures/ presentations at various National and International (Australia and Singapore) academic and research events. The themes of his publications and presentations include ‘Police Reforms in India’; ‘Internal Security Challenges with special reference to Naxalism’; ‘Women in Indian Police’; ‘Police-Media Relations’; ‘Traffic Awareness & Road Safety’; ‘Defining SMART Policing: The Roadmap’; and ‘Urban Policing in India: Challenges and Prospects’.

He has contributed in the development of e-content for several modules on Indian Administration and Cyber Criminology for UGC’s e-PG Pathshala Programme. Notably, he has prepared an e-content titled ‘Cyber Policing and Cyber Crime Investigation’. He has also worked on two research projects including one on Community Policing.

He has been supervising a number of M.Phil. & Ph.D. students on an array of topics in the discipline of Police Administration. Three of his Ph.D. students and Eleven of his M.Phil. Students have been awarded Degrees so far.

He is Executive Council Member of Police-Academia Interaction Forum (PAIF) set up by Gujarat Police and three Universities for strengthening the Police-Academia linkages.

Dr. Akshat Mehta is a regular panelist on Television Channels and has also been part of several Community Radio Programmes discussing the current issues relating to Police Administration.

He also officiated as In-charge Registrar, Raksha Shakti University, Gandhinagar for more than 5 months (March to September 2019).
